The Mix: Ingredients for Your Next Bath

Baths are a lot like cooking - toss a little of this, a little of that…and voila! you’ve got yourself a winning array of flavors and aromas. Of course not all recipies are loved by all and the same goes for in the tub. Be sure to consider things like your skin type and allergies before attempting anything new. (A foot bath is a great way to test a new ingredient out before full immersion).

Some great options for the bathing newbie are milk and honey, famed by Cleopatra herself. Coconut milk is an awesome choice adding a delicious scent while leaving skin supple and soft while the protein and fat content help exfoliate the skin. Honey is also a natural moisturizer. Coconut oil is another favorite providing the hydration boost for dry skin after a long winter. Also use coconut oil as your essential oil carrier if you choose to add them in. (DON’T just add essential oil drops to the water!) The carrier helps disperse the oils so they don’t adhere to your skin (especially lady parts). See my many posts on essential oils and great scent combos.

Oatmeal is also great for healing skin rashes and other ailments. Not into oats? Try Epsom salts to help replenish depleted magnesium (most of us are deficient), ease pain and lower stress levels. If all of these options still aren’t in your wheelhouse, you can simply add slices of citrus, a few flowers or bubble bath. The whole idea is to make your bath as relaxing as possible so you last longer to reap the health benefits.
