Baths and Mental Health

When you are feeling low or depressed the advice often given is to exercise to increase your serotonin levels. But many can attest that there are times when moving, or even the thought of it, seems impossible when feeling the blues. Sometimes being wrapped in a plush blanket and being still just feels better. A healthy alternative? Take a warm bath. One study found that bathing was actually more successful in boosting the moods of even the severely depressed over exercise, by helping circadian rhythms, improving sleep and regulating body temperatures. This is good news for when rigorous exercise is not an option.
